Airport guards exposed to carbon monoxide

News Transportation airport security security guardsST. JOHN'S, N.L. – Officials with the airport in St. John's, Newfoundland, are looking into how four security staff were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The security guards were taken to hospital at about 2 p.m. on Oct. 26.
Spokeswoman Marie Manning says the employees were conscious, but there were no other details about their condition.
She says the airport was not evacuated and no other employees or staff were affected.
The source of the carbon monoxide may have been welding taking place where diesel generators are operating in a construction zone for the airport expansion.
That is next to where the security staff were working and is not a passenger area.
Manning says there are carbon monoxide detectors and monitoring on site, and testing is being done in the affected area.
